Okay, okay…I totally slacked off and didn’t post my highlights from August. But, it’s fine because now I can show you some of the restaurants that I loved from August AND September. From the new, to the repeat offender, here’s my list!
An American Comfort Food restaurant located in Bucktown, AMK was a pleasant surprise. Not only was the food delicious, but their cocktails were so on point! They also have late hours making it the perfect place to grab a drink with friends while enjoying a great meal. Their new fall menu comes out soon, too!
Located in the loop, Cochon Volant offers delicious French cuisine. The menu by Chef Matt Ayala is absolutely scumptious, and Ian and I had a wonderful date night here! We started the night off on their patio with a glass of Chardonnay and the mussels. When I say these mussels were huge, I mean they were HUGE! Super meaty and perfectly steamed, they were some of the best mussels I have ever had. And they were the first mussels Ian has ever had. He instantly fell in love with them!
Next came the burger. OMG THE BURGER! It is hands down one of the best burgers in the city of Chicago. Super juicy, thick bacon, the perfect amount of cheese on a delicious brioche bun? A recipe for amazingness!
We topped the evening off with crème brûlée because if I ever see it on a menu I must have it. This one did not disappoint!
Located on the first floor of the Godfrey Hotel, Dolce Italian is absolutely refreshing. First, the space is absolutely gorgeous. Second, the food is delicious! There’s pizza, and then there’s Dolce’s pizza. The stuffed ricotta crust of the startufata pizza is incredible! I literally could not get enough of every single bite that I had.
It’s no secret that Presidio is my favorite restaurant in Chicago. I only mention this every chance I get. I love that the menu changes often, because I always get to try something new and delectable! This brunch was no exception. I took my girl Carissa here while she was visiting from NYC and both of us were blown away. Chef Shaun Connolly has done it again! The french toast was mind blowing! Foie gras butter?! I MEAN COME ON! I also tried the breakfast sandwich that was on an english muffin baked fresh in Logan Square. It was crazy good! And of course I had to have the Thai Shrimp and Grits again because it is the best, best, best dish!
American food done right. That’s the best way I can describe The Local! Everything here reminded me of East Coast Comfort Food. The inclusion of lobster in many of their dishes makes me soooo happy! Also the soup special of the day was Tortilla Soup, which is my favorite soup. It was one of my favorite Tortilla Soups ever!! Not to mention, The Local is located down by the Hancock Building making it very accessible if you’re downtown shopping, visiting the MCA, or enjoying the view from 360 Chicago!
Classic Italian fare can be found in the West Loop here at Viaggio. Ian (a known lover of Italian Cuisine) and I went here for a date. We started with cocktails (like this old fashioned), and ordered a few appetizers. The Meatball Salad and the Eggplant Stack are the ones that I honestly could not recommend enough! The meatballs were so tender and the eggplant was fried to perfection. I could’ve eaten three of each and been content, but of course we had to order entrees! Ian ordered the Penne Bolognese and I ordered the Lobster Risotto. They were both sooo tasty! This is definitely on our Date Night list from now on!
Enjoying one of the best Italian meals I have EVER had, you guys. Highlights of the meal: meatball salad, fried eggplant stacks with tomato, fresh mozzarella, and balsamic vinegar reduction, the lobster risotto (one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure of eating ever!), and this penne with bolognese. Ian's favorite food is bolognese and he thinks this is up there with the best of the best. We have already decided that this is now our new date night spot! If you've never been to Viaggio, get your butt over here because it is so yummy!
Thanks for following along as I recapped my favorites! Stay tuned to see where I eat in October!
