It’s no secret that I love Presidio. I only talk about it ALL THE TIME. Everything about the restaurant is perfect. The decor, the beverage program, the perfectly executed menu by Chef Shaun Connolly. They KILL it. I have literally never had a disappointing moment there. Last week Ian and I had a date night to try out their new fall menu. Fall food is my favorite and we both left very very happy.
First, let’s talk about the decor. It’s something that I love, and I have been guilty of brushing over it in the past. The design of a restaurant can make or break the whole experience, and interior designer John Wolf slayed the design of this space. Down to every little detail! It is stunningly elegant, while still remaining cozy. It’s definitely one of my favorite restaurant interiors in Chicago.
Now on to the meal! We first started with some of their new drinks. Of course!
The new fall drinks were so good! First was the Manhattan, which needs no introduction. It’s one of my all-time favorite cocktails and this one was REALLY good. Also, that glass is amazing! The Cherry Sage Fizz is made with London Dry Gin, Campari, Cherry Sage Syrup, Egg White, Soda, and Sage. It’s perfectly balanced between sweet and dry, and it was so refreshing! The sage is a very interesting addition in the best way possible. The Civil Disobedience has Vodka, Jamaican Pot Still Rum, Cranberry, Vermouth, and Nutmeg. This is definitely a drink I will be having during the holidays. I mean c’mon it just SCREAMS holidays! And last but not least, Sweater Weather. What a great name! It’s such a perfect name for a cocktail made with Sherry, Scotch, Spiced Chamomile Syrup, Lemon, Dried Apple, and Grated Cinnamon. I want to put a sweater on just thinking about it!
Okay, FOOD TIME.
We started with this Pork Belly with Swiss Chard, Celery Root Puree, Pickled Black Currants, and Sunchoke Chips. I am a little obsessed with pork belly and this dish was amazing. It may have been the best pork belly I’ve ever had. And that’s saying a lot because I’ve had A LOT of pork belly in my time. I’ve also been really into celery root puree lately and it goes so well with the pork belly and the swiss chard. My only complaint was that I didn’t have 4 more plates of it.
Next we had Scallops with Leeks, Grapes, Capers, Olives, and Apple Cider. Ummmmm….what? I would never have thought of putting these flavors together and they WORKED. Ian doesn’t even really like scallops and he loved this dish. I think it’s because of how perfectly cooked the scallops were. Or because of how great each and every bite was. I think both!
We then had the soup. This is the Heirloom Pumpkin Soup with Coconut Milk, Black Rice, Spicy Hazelnut Pesto, and Chili Oil. It was my favorite dish of the night. So colorful, beautifully plated, and the spiciness mixed with the sweetness of the pumpkin and coconut milk was wayyy too good. I could eat a bowl of that every day and never get sick of it!
Last, but not least, the Pork Chop with Kale, and Poached Apples. I loved the pork chops on their last menu, but I like these even more. The apples still had a little crunch so the mix of textures was great. And of course apples always go great with pork chops. Just ask Peter Brady:
Other new menu items include the Mussels with Bacon, Shaved Fennel, Potato, Bay Leaf and Vermouth Cream, and the Duck Rillette served with Roasted Pumpkin Mustard and Fennel-Raisin Bread. You literally cannot go wrong with anything on the menu! Go there as soon as you can and ENJOY!
Presidio is located in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago at 1749 N Damen Ave.
